This Privacy Policy describes how BetterGrin (“BetterGrin,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the BetterGrin website at bettergrin.com, the BetterGrin iOS application, and any related services (together, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Information you provide: account details (such as email address if you create an account), newsletter sign-ups, messages you send us, answers you give to in-product questionnaires, and any content you submit through forms.
• Photos you submit for Grin Score analysis: photos of your teeth or smile that you upload or capture in the website or iOS app to receive a Grin Score.
• Purchase information: if you subscribe to a paid tier of the iOS app, purchases are processed by Apple and RevenueCat. We receive subscription status and transaction identifiers, not your full payment card details.
• Device and usage information: IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, referring URLs, pages or screens viewed, time spent, and interactions with features. This is collected automatically when you use the Services.
• Cookies and similar technologies: cookies, local storage, and similar technologies used for authentication, preferences, analytics, and basic performance monitoring.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide and operate the Services, including generating your Grin Score, cost estimates, guides, and dentist directory results.
• Process subscriptions and manage paid features in the iOS app.
• Improve, test, and develop new features and content.
• Send transactional messages (for example, account confirmations) and, if you opt in, our newsletter.
• Detect, prevent, and investigate security issues, fraud, and abuse.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. Photos and the Grin Score

When you submit photos for a Grin Score, those photos are sent to the Google Gemini API to generate your score and insights. BetterGrin does not retain your Grin Score photos on our servers after your score is generated and returned to you. Photos are used solely to produce your score and are not used to train any BetterGrin model.

Google processes the photos under its own terms and privacy practices. Please review Google's privacy documentation for details on how Google handles data submitted to Gemini. The Grin Score provides general wellness insights only and is not a clinical diagnosis.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

• Service providers: vendors who host, operate, and support the Services, including Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and authentication), Google (Gemini for photo analysis and Places data for the dentist directory), Apple (App Store and in-app purchases), RevenueCat (subscription management), and analytics and error monitoring providers.
• Legal and safety: when required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or property.
• Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy continuing to apply to your information.
• With your consent: when you direct us to share your information.

5. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. We retain other information for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Grin Score photos are not retained after analysis.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your device secure.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion of your personal information.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Port your information to another service.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Opt out of marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link.

8. California Privacy Rights

California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. 9. European and UK Users (GDPR/UK GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to deliver the Services), legitimate interests (to operate, improve, and secure the Services), consent (for optional processing such as newsletters and certain cookies), and legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Where we transfer data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Children's Privacy

BetterGrin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it. Users aged 13 to 17 should use the Services only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

11. Third-Party Links and Services

The Services may contain links to third-party websites, services, and affiliate offers (such as dental products, discount plans, or dentist sites from our directory). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. Please review their privacy policies before providing information.

12. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, remembering preferences, measuring performance, and understanding how the Services are used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. On iOS, you can manage tracking preferences in your device settings; the BetterGrin app honors your App Tracking Transparency choice.

13. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no consistent industry standard for responding to these signals, our Services do not currently respond to them.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, by email or through the Services). Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
